Doing Great things for God so why do we doubt when he calls

•March 5, 2009 •

We all want to do something great for God, though when He calls us, we can’t give excuses, we need to Go. When we feel the call of God on our lives to do something, we sometimes give the excuses we’re not good enough, we’re too young, we can’t speak well enough. What about David, who before taking the charge to go up against Goliath also fought and killed a lion and a bear.

Even with that resume look at what Saul says to David in first Samuel 17:32-33 David said to Saul, “Let no man’s heart fail on account of him; your servant will go and fight with this Philistine.” 33 Then Saul said to David, “you are not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him; for you are but a youth while he has been a warrior from his youth.”

What about Moses who was to lead the Israelites out of the Hand of Pharaoh and told God I am neither good in speech or slow of tongue. Like Moses, and David we as well either give the excuse or are told by others that we are not capable or have the ability to do what God has for us. Even though I had the desire to do youth ministry I wondered, along with moses, how with a speech impairment I was going to be a youth pastor.

I had people tell me that ministry may not be good for me, I had a high school history teacher tell me I wouldn’t make it in college. Some people at bible college didn’t think that I would do well in the classes. So they had me graduate with an associates degree in my third year at College. Was I an A+ student no, was the subjects hard yes, did I have a learning disability yes. Regardless of what I felt or what people where telling me, I knew that I had to get out of my comfort zone, and keep my eyes focused on God. Because I knew that God had a plan and a purpose for my life. For it says in Jeremiah 29:11 Message Bible I know what I’m doing. I have it all planned out—plans to take care of you, not abandon you, plans to give you the future you hope for.

Their are to many times in our lives when we listen to those around us, telling us we can’t make it, we won’t finish, your a failure, you won’t succeed, your not smart enough.
Even with those voices telling us we can’t, we won’t accomplish what God has for us. Their is always that still small voice of the holy spirit, telling us, keep going, don’t listen to those around you, I will give you the strength to finish.

When we feel Gods call on our hearts to do something for him He is not going to call us out of our comfort zone and not be their for us. Why do I know that because God gives us the perfect example of not leaving us alone when He is going to the boat and calls Peter.
Peter does what most of us do at least some point in our life time, we take our eyes of off Christ. Because of the trials, situations, difficulties that surround us we begin to sink, and lose the faith that God gives us. Thats when God has to come over, take our hand and say you of little faith why did you doubt.

How come their are not a lot of disability people in churches

Many of our churches, say that they will welcome anyone that will come into the doors of the church. They say they will reach a certain mile radius of those in their community. Though how many of those people are disabled? How many of those are not going to church on a daily bases 1. Because they don’t have the accessibility to get to the church 2. Because the church does not have a ministry to reach out to the disabled, 3. Because the church does not have the time, ability, and calling to want to reach those that are disabled. Now I don’t mean to be stepping on some toes if I am, and yes it may be a little tougher and a little harder to reach certain people with disabilities, to understand the bible, and subject matter that we preach about. But why don’t we?

Right now, I am at a special touch getaway in WI, where many of these campers are only getting their church for 1 week out of the 51 weeks of the year. I am going to give a short 10 minute testimony about my life, and about how I was raised up in the church, but didn’t always feel the love that I should have. I have meet some people here that have showed me that they don’t care what others think, or what others will say they will get up in front of the Congregation, and worship God. It may not be the “normal” worship that we think about but they worship. Their are varying degrees of disability at this camp and on the “outside” world. Yes they are all different, they each have a different way of functioning, understanding, comprehending, but in the end they understand and can comprehend, that Jesus Christ is Lord and Savior. As we know it says in

Matthew 28:19 16 Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. 17 When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. 18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them ina the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Yes we are obeying the call that God has given to us, but only to a certain extent. Some that read this may be reaching out to those that have disabilities, and I applaud you for that, but what about the rest of us. Their is a lost and dying Generation of 80 Million people that have disabilities, and their is less than 1 Percent (don’t quote me on that) that go to church. Lets pray for a determination, and desire, and a holy spirits fire, to build up within us to reach those with disabilities that do not know Christ.
